Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says his team will look to do everything in their power to garner victory in their Absa Premiership tie against Kaizer Chiefs tonight.

Tinkler’s side aim to extend their unbeaten run to ten consecutive outings in the PSL when they face fellow title-contenders Chiefs, who have yet to get the better of them this season, playing to a loss and a stalemate in their cup and league games respectively.

City’s mentor highlighted the importance of securing maximum points in their quest to obtain the league title in their maiden season in the Absa Premiership.

‘Look, it’s a tough game and a must-win,’ he said in a pre-match conference on Monday.

‘We’ve reached that stage of the season now where we have nothing to lose. But we also have to throw everything at it and go for it.

‘We’ve got six games left. That’s a possible 18 points.

‘Yes, other clubs like Wits and Sundowns have games in hand on us, but I still firmly believe points will be dropped,’ he added.

The Citizens occupy top spot with 46 points from their 24 games played and can be leapfrogged at the summit of the table if they are to lose against Chiefs, whilst the Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United ties could also play a part in the movement at the top of the table.

Despite his side’s superior record against Steve Komphela’s men, Tinkler is wary of the threat that the Soweto giants pose to his side’s title aspirations.

‘They are set up nicely and they know how to screen, and once they get the ball they come at you.

‘We need to be careful that our game model does not play into their hands,’ he concluded.

The two teams do duty at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday 25 April with kickoff set for 19:30.
