Cape Town City have announced that Eric Tinkler has resigned from his post as head coach, with the former Bafana midfielder set to take over at SuperSport United.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that the 46-year-old is close to completing his move to Matsatsantsa and becoming Stuart Baxter’s successor ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The former Orlando Pirates coach has since parted ways with the club, after his impressive spell at City, leading them to the 2016 Telkom Knockout trophy, a third place finish in the Absa Premiership and secure a place in the Caf Confederation Cup next season.

The Cape Town-based side released the following statement:

‘CTCFC is saddened to announce that coach Eric Tinkler has broken his three-year contract, just weeks before pre-season.’

‘He exits the club, after just one season, by his choice, through a buyout clause. The club, management, players, fans and entire City of Cape Town are as determined as ever to resolve and stand up for our footballing vision.

‘The club has been overwhelmed by the interest in the position, but one true candidate has emerged.’

‘We will be announcing the new CTCFC head coach within the next seven days.’
