Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has criticised his players for the ‘unprofessional and sloppy’ errors which threw away a lead against SuperSport United over the weekend.

City and SuperSport played out to an exciting 3-3 draw at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday but both sides made sloppy errors.

Post-game McCarthy didn’t hold back on his side, saying that some of those players won’t play again because of how ill-disciplined they were against Kaitano Tembo’s men.

‘If I had a bundle of players to pick from, half of them that played today won’t play again in the team, that’s how ill-disciplined they were,’ Benni said.

‘They were very unprofessional. Because at this level when you get an opportunity to beat a team, you beat them, you don’t become sloppy, you don’t become irresponsible.

‘You don’t not do what you are supposed to do and that you get paid to do. You don’t do it because you like me, or you don’t like me. You get paid to play football; you get paid to defend when you are supposed to defend. You get paid to score goals.

‘The money you earn every month isn’t for free, this is their job,’ concluded the City coach.
