Mamelodi Sundowns forward Percy Tau has credited his teammates for helping him to become a team player, which contributed to his impressive form this season.

The 22-year-old was awarded the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month for December for his well-taken diving header in his side’s victory over Free State Stars.

The Sundowns forward was also recently named man of the match for his display against Angola, following their goalless draw at Buffalo City Stadium on Tuesday.

Tau has credited the Sundowns squad for his outstanding performance, but insists that his responsibilities have increased since the start of the season.

‘I remember the goal… it was against Free State,’ Tau said after winning December’s Gola of the Month award.

‘It goes back to hard work and the support I get from my teammates; everything that I do, its part of the team and it’s part of the team structure.

‘I tried to be a team player, so this is the new Percy, he has a responsibility… a bigger responsibility than before.’

Tau recently earned himself two Bafana Bafana caps following his outstanding campaign for Sundowns, having netted nine goals and assisted a further 12 assists in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane went on to praise Tau and insists that he is happy with the striker’s progress in the squad.

‘Percy is growing slowly, progressively and he is getting there. We are happy for him,’ Mosimane said after winning the Coach of the Month award.

Mamelodi Sundowns will now go head-to-head with Kaizer Chiefs in a mouthwatering Absa Premiership clash on Saturday.

The match at the FNB Stadium kicks off at 20:15.
