SuperSport United were held to a goalless draw by a tenacious Ajax Cape Town outfit at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.

Matsatsantsa remain in third with 36 points from 19 matches, two behind league leaders Cape Town City, although Stuart Baxter’s men have a game in hand.

After earning a hard-fought point, Ajax sit in 12th – seven points above the drop zone.

Jody February made two good saves in the first half to deny Thabo Mnyamane and then Mandla Masango to keep the visitors level at the break.

Masango was also denied by the bar as his well-struck volley beat February, but this was still not enough to hand SuperSport the lead.

Bantu Mzwakali hit the bar after the hour mark as he almost snatched the lead for Ajax, before it was the turn of the SuperSport goalkeeper, Reyaad Pieterse, to make two good saves – both from the rejuvenated Mark Mayambela.
