Mamelodi Sundowns announced that they have penned a three-year with South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai.

The defending Caf Champions League winners publicised the deal at a press conference in Bedfordview on Tuesday afternoon.

As part of the sleeve sponsorship deal, Masandawana received a fleet of cars, as well as branding to be applied to the dugout.

‘We are so excited by this partnership with Hyundai, I think it’s a partnership of winners, the very best motor company in the world associating with the very best football club in South Africa and on the continent, in terms of the titles,’ said club president Patrice Motsepe.

‘It’s very exciting to see a company, in less than 17 years, start from 2000 cars to 36 000 – it says a lot about the quality and huge growth and opportunities for this exceptional product,’ he said.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane reiterated Motsepe’s sentiments, in addition to drawing comparisons between the two brands.

‘We are humbled, we appreciate the association that, as the president has just said about the [Hyundai] brand and how fast-moving it is, we are also fast movers in football.

‘The product is there, everybody can see it – and by the way, I have a Hyundai in my house, so maybe you will upgrade me.

‘Of course the brand is international and it has moved at that rate; we [Sundowns] are also an international brand, hence the relationship is mutual.

‘We came at the right time, we used to be in the borders and we came out the borders to the continent. We conquered the continent and we represented the continent at the Fifa [Club] World Cup, and that’s where you [Hyundai] are playing,’ he said.

‘So I think you understand that you are playing with the right people, and we are playing in the same space. The relationship is going to be exciting,’ he concluded.
