Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic says his side are working on being more clinical on attack after their 1-0 win over Chippa United on Saturday.

The Buccaneers walked away with three points against the Chilli Boys after Thamsanqa Gabuza’s 37th minute goal at the Orlando Stadium.

The Serbian coach says he was pleased with his side’s dedication to secure the win, while also reserving special praise for debutant Innocent Maela.

‘A very hard game, we are lacking self-confidence individually and as a team. We came into this game with the intention to win and gain confiedence,’ Micho told SuperSport TV after the match.

‘I’m happy with the commitment, dedication and hard work of the team, but we need to be clinical, there was so many things that we really need to improve.

‘But confidence is coming up only when you’re winning. A very nice goal from a training situation, I’m very happy for Innocent Maela – his first match in the PSL – that he assisted and Gabuza scored.

‘I’m very happy with the hard work of all the team members, we played against a very good team and I believe we deservedly won this game.’

Sredojevic insists that Pirates are working to improve their defensive and attacking work rate ahead of their next Absa Premiership encounter.

‘Like any team, we are dreaming of having creative build-ups and dangerous attacks and, whenever we lose the ball, in transition to defend in numbers and as a team,’ he added.

‘This is exactly where we need to improve. We need to defend by attacking, this is a big team that demands of you to be in attack all the time, and today we showed in the dying moments how we really wanted to win the game as a team.

‘This was to give us confidence, but better football and attacking football will come when we have gained that confidence.’

Orlando Pirates will now travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium when they face Baroka in their second Absa Premiership match of the season on Tuesday.

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
