Orlando Pirates assistant coach Fadlu Davids strongly believes that Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will start ahead of Itumeleng Khune in the Soweto derby this weekend.

The Buccaneers are set to renew their rivalry with Amakhosi at the FNB Stadium for the second instalment of the Soweto derby in the Absa Premiership this season.

Josef Zinnbauer’s side will have the opportunity to reduce Chiefs’ lead to three points, while Amakhosi will have the chance to extend their lead to nine points over their arch-rivals.

Khune recently returned to the Amakhosi starting lineup in place of Akpeyi, but Davids believes that the Nigerian shotstopper is ahead of Khune in the pecking order as he has featured as Chiefs’ No 1 for most of the season.

‘It’s clear that they have a No 1 and that’s Akpeyi,’ Davids said at the Soweto derby media conference.

‘I don’t think they will change.’
