Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele received the first red card of his career against Maritzburg United and will now miss Saturday’s Soweto derby, but was Jele unlucky to receive his marching orders?

The veteran Pirates defender was shown a red card after a second bookable offence in the 61st minute as the Bucaaneers went down to 10 men for the second time in as many games.

The sending-off may not have had too much of an impact on the result against Maritzburg as the teams played out to a 0-0 draw, but the Pirates captain will now miss Saturday’s mega clash with Kaizer Chiefs.

The red card was the first of Jele’s long career but was he rightly sent off?

Pirates coach Mokwena will now have to rejig his defence ahead of the weekend’s derby.
