Who should start as Kaizer Chiefs’ frontman when they take on Cape Town City in the Telkom Knockout Cup on Saturday: Samir Nurkovic or Leonardo Castro?

The Glamour Boys got their 2019-20 campaign off to an impressive start, having won six, drawn one and conceded one defeat in their first eight matches in the Absa Premiership.

Amakhosi’s only defeat this campaign came at the hands of Polokwane City, who beat them 1-0 at the FNB Stadium on 14 September.

However, Chiefs will now turn their focus to their Telkom Knockout Cup last-16 clash with Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, as they look to book their place in the next round of the competition.

Samir Nurkovic

The 27-year-old arrived at the club relatively unknown to Chiefs fans and wasted no time in winning over the Amakhosi faithful with his impressive performances for the club so far this season.

The Serbian managed to grab his first assist during their 3-2 victory over Highlands Park in the opening game of the Absa Premiership season before bagging his first Chiefs goal during their 1-1 draw with SuperSport United.

Despite picking up a head injury in their 4-2 win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup last weekend, Nurkovic has been given the green light to showcase his quality against City this weekend.

Leonardo Castro

The Colombian has struggled for game time at Chiefs this season and has managed to feature on only two occasions, playing 45 minutes against Black Leopards and 47 against AmaZulu.

Castro has only managed to score one goal during Amakhosi’s 2-0 victory over Usuthu in the Absa Premiership on 24 September.

However, Castro looked to have rediscovered his goal-scoring form after completing a first-half hat-trick against rivals Sundowns to help his side claim glory in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup.

The 30-year-old striker will be hoping to be given the chance to continue his goal-scoring run in their next cup fixture against Benni McCarthy’s side.
