SuperSport United striker Evans Rusike reveals he was not disappointed after a move to Orlando Pirates failed to transpire during the 2016-17 season.

The 27-year-old joined Matsatsantsa during the January transfer window from Maritzburg United, and has since made four appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process.

Rusike says he was not dispirited after Maritzburg and Pirates failed to agree on a deal for him, stating that ‘everything happens for a reason’.

‘There was a time last season when I was told by the office that Pirates made contact. They asked for my services, but I don’t know about any other team being interested in me,’ Rusike told KickOff.com.

‘I was just hoping they [Maritzburg and Pirates] would agree to club-to-club terms. I was not disappointed that the move did not happen.

‘I am a Christian and I believe everything happens for a reason. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen and no one will stand in the way of it happening.’

Rusike says he is solely focused on doing well and helping his side finish in the top eight of the Absa Premiership after scoring his first goal against Bloemfontein Celtic.

‘My focus now is to do well with the team and help the team finish in the top eight and I believe it’s possible for us to do that,’ he added.

‘That’s the other reason I came here. I saw the way they play and I was so inspired to play with them. We have a great squad.’

SuperSport United will now travel to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium when they take on Platinum Stars in the league next Tuesday, with kickoff set for 19:30.
