Cape Town City forward Tokelo Rantie could be set to leave the club just a few months after signing, and after not making a single appearance for Benni McCarthy’s side.

The former Orlando Pirates and Bournemouth striker had his contract terminated with Turkish club Genclerbirligi back in December 2017, and after several months without football he signed for City back in August.

Rantie was given the task of regaining his fitness and fighting for a place in the starting 11 at the Citizens.

However, he has reportedly failed in his bid to improve his fitness, and with City now willing to let him go amid concerns over a drinking problem‚ according to officials.

Both McCarthy and club chairman John Comitis reportedly spoke of the need for the player to regain his fitness and confidence, and despite Rantie training with the club since September, he was never able to lose weight even with extra training and special dietary programmes.

With City having confirmed the signing of former Bafana striker Kermit Erasmus on Wednesday, Rantie’s departure is looking even more likely.

Rantie certainly has the ability to revive his career, but whether he has the commitment and desire remains to be seen.
