The race for promotion to the Premier Soccer League will go down to the wire in a three horse race between Cape Town Spurs, Casric Stars and Polokwane City.

Following a penultimate round in the Motsepe Foundation Championship filled with drama, the battle for automatic promotion will be settled on the season’s final day.

1) Cape Town Spurs – 56 points

Spurs reclaimed the top spot in the league following their 2-1 victory over NB La Masia through goals from Ashley Cupido and Luvuyo Phewa at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

The win sees them move to the top of the league standings with 56 points after 29 games, while La Masia are placed 13th on the log with 31 points from 29 matches.

The Urban Warriors are now set to face the University of Pretoria in a must-win clash at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on May 14.

2) Casric Stars – 55 points

Casric Stars surrender their opportunity to remain top of the standings after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Venda Football Academy at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga.

Babatunde Adepoju opened for Venda Football Academy in the 18th minute but a 42nd minute goal by Thabang Ernest Rakwena earned Stars a much-needed point.

The stalemate leaves Stars sitting in second place on the log, a point behind Spurs with 55 points, while Venda are in 11th place with 35 points from 29 matches.

Stars will have it all to play for on the final day of the current campaign when they travel to the Tsakane Stadium to take on All Stars in Brakpan on Sunday, May 14.

3) Polokwane City – 54 points

Polokwane City remained in contention for gaining promotion back to the PSL following their 2-0 victory over Platinum City Rovers at th Olen Park in Potchefstroom.

As a result, Rise and Shine find themselves sitting in third place in the league standings with 54 points, a point behind Casric Stars and two behind leaders Spurs.

Polokwane City will now take on Pretoria Caillies FC in the final league game of the campaign when the two sides square off at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday, May 14.
