Orlando Pirates opened their 2022-23 DStv Premiership campaign with a 1-0 win over Swallows FC, while Kaizer Chiefs got off to a disappointing start after suffering a 1-0 defeat by Royal AM on Saturday evening.

Orlando Pirates opened the new campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Soweto rivals Swallows FC at the Orlando Stadium in the first edition of the original Soweto derby.

The Buccaneers began their campaign with a positive result under new coach Jose Riveiro, walking away with all three points after new signing Bienvenu Eva Nga scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute.

Royal AM 1-0 Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs started their league campaign in the worst start possible way suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat by Royal AM at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban.

Thwihli Thwahla managed to bag all three points after taking the lead in the first minute when Ricard Nascimento latched on to a loose ball before finding the back of the net following De Jong’s initial shot.

Golden Arrows 0-2 Richards Bay

Richard Bay kick started their debut in the DStv Premiership with a 2-0 victory over rivals Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.

Somila Ntsundwana opened the scoring for the new boys as early as the 28th minute before Abel Mabaso ended the game in the 71st minute to hand Richards Bay a comfortable win over Arrows in their opening match of the season.

Marumo Gallants FC 0-0 Stellenbosch

Marumo Gallants and Stellenbosch FC were forced to share the spoils after playing out to a goalless draw in their DStv Premiership opener at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
