Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a goalless draw against Bloemfontein Celtic, while Bidvest Wits relinquished second place to Orlando Pirates following their defeat to Cape Town City in this weekend’s action of the Absa Premiership, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

Friday:

Maritzburg United 2-1 AmaZulu

Mariztburg United fought back to claim a 2-1 victory over AmaZulu in their Absa Premiership encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

The result saw the Team of Choice and Usuthu remain 16th and 11th respectively on the league standings.

Saturday:

Mamelodi Sundowns 0-0 Bloemfontein Celtic 

Mamelodi Sundowns were forced to settle for a point after they were held to a 0-0 draw by a stubborn Bloemfontein Celtic side at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane in a game which was overshadowed by Wandisile Letlabika’s injury.

The result moves the Brazilians up to 40 points on the log standings and two points clear of Bidvest Wits, while Siwelele move up to sixth following the stalemate.

Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 Highlights Park

Goals from Bernard Parker, Leonardo Castro and Dumisani Zuma saw Kaizer Chiefs secure a 3-2 victory over Highlands Park in a thrilling five-goal game at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The win sees the Amakhosi move up to fifth place on the Absa Premiership log, while the Lions of the North remain in ninth spot.

Free State Stars 2-2 Black Leopards

Free State Stars were held by Black Leopards to a 2-2 draw in their league encounter at the Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem.

The draw saw Ea Lla Koto remain 15th on the league standings, while Lidoda Duvha climbed up to 12th place on the table.

Golden Arrows 0-1 Orlando Pirates

A first-half goal from Justin Shonga helped Orlando Pirates claim a narrow 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban.

The Buccaneers secured the win that took them up to second place on the log, while Abafana Bes’thende remain in 10th place.

Bidvest Wits 2-3 Cape Town City

Cape Town City came from two goals down to secure an impressive 3-2 victory over Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.

Despite the win, the Citizens remain fourth in the league standings, while the Clever Boys dropped down to third place on the table.

Sunday:

Chippa United 0-1 SuperSport United

SuperSport United returned to winning ways when they secured a narrow 1-0 win over Chippa United at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane.

The victory took Matsatsantsa up to fifth spot on the league standings, while the Chilli Boys remain 14th on the table.

Baroka 1-3 Polokwane City

Polokwane City managed to claim a comfortable 3-1 victory over Baroka in their derby encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Rise and Shine have now moved up to seventh place in the league standings, while Bakgaga remain rooted in 13th place.
