Kaizer Chiefs returned to winning ways in the DStv Premiership following their 2-0 victory over Maritzburg United at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Glamour Boys made four changes to their side that lost to Royal AM as Khama Billiat came in for Leonardo Castro, Njabulo Ngcobo for Austin Dube, Ramahlwe Mphahlele is in for the injured Reeve Frosler and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo was replaced by Phathutshedzo Nange.

Amakhosi got off to a good start and produced the first chance of the game in the fifth minute but Nange fired his effort high and wide of the target.

The Team of Choice should have taken the lead four minutes later but Amadou Soukouna fired his effort inches wide of goal with the keeper well-beaten after he was picked out by Leletu Skelem.

Keagan Dolly had a chance to break the deadlock in the 19th minute when he unleashed a strike from just inside the box but the Amakhosi attacker saw his effort blocked by Riyaaz Ismail.

Chiefs came close to opening the scoring in the 33rd minute but Billiat saw his shot take a slight deflection before flashing across the face of goal.

Billiat did eventually hand Amakhosi the lead two minutes later when he slotted the ball home from close range after being set up by Njabulo Blom to bag his fifth goal of the season.

Chiefs had two opportunities to double their lead in the 41st minute but Bernard Parker’s effort and Ntiya-Ntiya’s volley were unable to find the back of the net as the game went into the half time break.

The Team of Choice had a great chance to level matters early in the second half but substitute Bongokuhle Hlongwane was denied by Daniel Akpeyi from close range.

Keegan Ritchie should have found the equalising goal in the 53rd minute but his strike hit off the far post before making its way back into play.

The Soweto giants eventually doubled their lead in the 80th minute when Nkosingiphile Ngcobo found the back net with a curling effort after being set up by Billiat.

Happy Mashiane came close to adding a third goal deep into stoppage time but the midfielder fired his effort wide of goal as Amakhosi held on to return to winning ways.
