Polokwane City suffered a 3-1 defeat by Bidvest Wits to finish bottom of the Absa Premiership log, while Black Leopards were beaten 3-0 by Champions Mamelodi Sundowns and are now in the relegation/promotion playoffs.

While there were five teams still in danger of going down, it was Polokwane City whose situation looked most dire as they needed a massive win over Wits, while hoping results would also go their way.

They, however, struggled against a Wits side who were playing their final game after being sold to TTM and despite the Clever Boys having a man sent off, Rise and Shine didn’t have enough firepower and were eventually beaten 3-1.

Black Leopards, on the other hand, knew that with Baroka playing Kaizer Chiefs they could still have a say in their survival. Bakgaga showed immense character and fighting spirt as they staged a second- half comeback to earn a point against Chiefs, costing Amakhosi the title and saving themselves as Leopards were thrashed 3-0 by Sundowns.

Sundowns were chasing a big win in case Chiefs got the win against Baroka and the league would be decided on goal difference. As a result, Leopards were bombarded from the onset and had no answer to the Downs onslaught and will now play in the relegation/promotion playoffs.

AmaZulu, who have been in good form inside the bubble, finished their season with a 1-1 draw with Highlands Park to secure their safety, while Chippa United beat Golden Arrows 1-0 to avoid a playoff spot as well.
