The Premier Soccer League have launched an Absa Premiership Goal of the Month competition, which now allows fans to vote for the winner.

For the first time in the history of the PSL, they are taking the power away from the panel of judges and giving it to the football supporters and members of the general public to decide the winner of the Absa-lutely Goal of the Season.

Each of the goals selected during the monthly voting process will be in contention for the Absa Premiership Goal of the Season award, which will be announced at the end of the 2016-17 season, according to the PSL.

Supporters are now able to vote for their choice of the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month on the official PSL website, where the pick of the top goals from August to December 2016 has already been listed.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defenders Jimmy Tau and Sphiwe Mkhonza expressed their views on the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month competition.

‘The fans are the biggest stakeholders in football and this gives them a chance to have their say. What I saw last in Mdantsane was brilliant, great atmosphere. It is important to take football to the people,’ Tau said.

‘Fans now need to pay more attention because they can now vote for the best goal.’

‘The fans want to be involved, this a great opportunity for them to be involved. I think Sundowns are the favourites to win the league. They are not just African Champs by mistake,’ Mkhonza said.

Here is how to vote for the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month:

  1. Go to www.PSL.co.za and find the Goal of the Month voting section (top right side).
  2. Click there – and fill in the form (it will require a name and surname).
  3. Then fans can cast their votes for each month.
  4. Fans are automatically entered into the monthly competition.
  5. There are also two grand prizes for the end of the season – but fans need to start voting now to be in the mix.
