A late goal by Sipho Jembula helped Polokwane City claim a 1-1 draw with Highlands Park at the Makhulong Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions of the North got off to a bright start and broke the deadlock as early as the second minute when Peter Shalulile latched onto a cross before guiding the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Rise and Shine came close to finding an equalising goal in the 28th minute when Rodney Ramagalela could only find the woodwork with his shot from distance.

Polokwane were dealt a major blow in the 42nd minute when Tshepo Tema was forced off the field with his respective injury and had to be replaced by Walter Maponyane.

Highlands Park should’ve doubled their lead just before the half-time interval when Edwin Sitayitayi was played through on goal but saw his effort guided wide of the target.

Polokwane dominated proceedings in the second half and came close to levelling matters in the 72nd minute when Tlou Segolela’s volleyed effort went just over the crossbar.

Gordon Igesund’s side pushed forward in the hopes of extending their lead and should’ve doubled the lead in the 85th minute but Charlton Mashuna fired his effort over the crossbar from close range.

However, Rise and Shine eventually levelled matters in stoppage time when Sipho Jembula curled his effort into the back of the net, as both sides settle for a point each at the Makhulong Stadium.
