Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane hopes that Tokelo Rantie will be patient as the forward looks to earn himself a contract while on trial with the club.

Rantie returned to South Africa from abroad and signed with Cape Town City at the start of last season, but had his contract terminated after off-field issues surrounding his fitness.

The forward has not played in over six months, but is hoping to earn himself a contract at Chloorkop having been in pre-season with the Absa Premiership championship.

Now a free agent, Rantie isn’t bound by the 31 August transfer deadline, meaning that Sundowns can take their time in assessing him.

The former Bafana Bafana coach hopes that the forward will remain patient because he will give him a chance.

‘To crack it [at Sundowns] is not easy and I hope he is patient. If he is looking at the transfer of August 31 that he should have a contract … maybe we have not made a decision because he must also understand that he is at one of the highest teams in Africa, so it’s not easy to crack it in there. You really have to score goals for us, training and so on,’ Mosimane said.

‘But he is a good player and he is getting better. And I say to myself, if there’s one player I’m going to give a chance, it’s Tokelo. Whether he is going to make it or not, I’ll give him a chance. When he’s with me, I’ll give him a chance to play Premier League. He is a good player.’
