Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane wants his side to continue to grind out results to remain in contention for the Absa Premiership title.

The Brazilians managed to secure back-to-back wins in the league after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium over the weekend.

Sundowns have now moved up to third place on the table with 38 points to close the gap on log-leaders Kaizer Chiefs to just seven points.

‘Jingles’ remains hopeful that the reigning Absa Premiership champions can topple Kaizer Chiefs, with 10 games to go and the two sides still to face off at FNB Stadium later in the season.

With 10 games left in the PSL campaign, Mosimane has urged his side to continue their current momentum in the league after Amakhosi dropped vital points against Maritzburg United.

‘We have to push. If you want to stay in contention for the title, you have to push. And they [players] know. I was telling them at half time that they are playing with the opportunity of keeping the league [race] alive because they were missing chances,’ Mosimane told the media.

‘They started with backheels and it was nice. I said there is one thing that they must know, we appreciate they scored the goal in the first half and are controlling the game. But the manner in which they are missing chances – we told them that they are skating on thin ice with an opportunity to chase the league. It is still alive, until mathematically it’s not.’

Mamelodi Sundowns will now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup last-16 clash with Vaal University at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
