Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo admits that the team’s current situation is puzzling because the Sea Robbers have been scoring goals but not getting the results without Lady Luck on their side.

The Buccaneers have won just two of their opening 10 matches in the season across all competitions in a season where they were earmarked to win some silverware.

After defeats in the opening rounds of the Caf Champions League and MTN8 coupled with inconsistent league form, the pressure has mounted on caretaker coach Rhulani Mokwena.

Mokwena has picked up just one win in seven games since taking over from the departed Milutin Sredojevic, placing the Soweto giants in the unfamiliar league position of eighth with nine points from seven matches.

Despite the recent difficulties, Mlambo believes his side can turn things around if they stand together and work as a team.

‘We have to stand with each other and work as a team; we have to motivate one another and lift each other up,’ said Mlambo.

‘For a team to do well, all team members have to be [singing] on the same tune, so it only requires us as a team to work as a team in order to change the situation around.

‘It’s quite puzzling that we haven’t gotten the results that we wished for, I mean, we’ve been working very hard, scoring goals, but with Lady Luck not our side, it has come out to be what it was.

‘And we can’t run away from the situation, we have to face it head on and we’ll work very hard to turn things around.’

Pirates will next be in action when they host Stellenbosch at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday in the Telkom Knockout Last 16.
