Kaizer Chiefs star Samir Nurkovic believes that it isn’t acceptable for a club the size of the Soweto giants to not win the league.

Chiefs have been without silverware since winning the league in 2015 but they could end that drought if they secure the title on Saturday with Mamelodi Sundowns breathing down their necks.

The title rivals are level on points, but Chiefs have a better goal difference than Downs leading them by three goals.

Speaking ahead of the final game against Baroka, Nurkovic said the club deserves the title because of all the hard work put in by every member of the Soweto giants.

“I wasn’t here for the past five seasons, but what I thought when I arrived at this big club Kaizer Chiefs is that it’s not acceptable to not win the title,” the 28-year-old Serbian told his club’s media team.

“Because [the club] deserves everything, the way everything is working in the club – everything is on the highest level, the players have basically everything.

“So, we deserve to be on the first place and we’ve fought from the beginning of the season to be there, and we’re going to fight in the last game for the entire 100 minutes to secure [the title].

“Especially, I think it will mean a lot to the chairman [Kaizer Motaung Sr] because it’s the 50-year celebration, and I’ll be happy that in my first season to have won this title.”
