Cape Town City FC midfielder Thabo Nodada revealed to FourFourTwo South Africa what it is like to play for ‘hero’ Benni McCarthy, writes DEAN WORKMAN.

The 23-year-old, who rose to prominence at Mpumalanga Black Aces and subsequently made the move to Cape Town when John Comitis bought and moved the club in 2016, has become an important figure in the City midfield under McCarthy.

The midfielder was rewarded for a stellar 2017/18 season by being named the Cape Town City Player of the Year after becoming one of the first names on McCarthy’s teamsheet.

Nodada has continued to develop and improve under his childhood hero in Cape Town and he revealed the confidence which his coaches belief gives him.

‘It’s been enormous man [to play for McCarthy]. Not everybody gets to be mentored by a childhood hero, let alone have one believe in your abilities,’ Nodada told FourFourTwo South Africa.

‘Above that, having someone who’s achieved what I want to achieve and have him to guide me is a blessing, it really is.

The Citizens enter their second season under the former Bafana Bafana striker and Nodada promised the fans that they are ready to deliver this time around.

‘We know very well of the disappointments of last season and how close but far we came. It’s a new season, fresh start and I’m more than sure we will deliver more than last season.

‘Keep believing us and never doubt the impact your support has on us,’ he concluded urging the fans to keep the faith.
