Mamelodi Sundowns defender Sifiso Ngobeni admits they are using their run of fixtures in the DStv Premiership to help them prepare for the Caf Champions League.

The 24-year-old made his long-awaited first appearance for the Brazilians during their emphatic 4-1 victory over Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday, 17 December 2021.

The defender was then named on the bench for the following game against AmaZulu before making only his second appearance for Sundowns in their 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants at Loftus Versfeld Stadium last Thursday.

However, the Mamelodi-born defender has since expressed his delight after he was given the opportunity to get some much-needed game time under his belt.

“I was very happy to make my debut against a team like Orlando Pirates, the small boy in me once dreamt of making a debut like that,” Ngobeni told his club’s official website.

“For us as a team, we really want to use the league to help us prepare for the CAF Champions League, so we really need to keep winning our games. At this time of the year it can be very difficult to stay focused, but we have a goal and a vision.

“My message to the Yellow Nation would be to enjoy themselves, it has been a tough year, a tough season. We have to remember that COVID-19 is still around [and they should remain safe] so that we can see them next year. Ka Bo Yellow Masandawana!”
