Ajax Cape Town midfielder Bantu Mzwakali says he feels honoured to have made 100 appearances for the Urban Warriors since he was promoted to the first team back in 2013.

The 23-year-old made his 100th appearance for the Urban Warriors during their 2-0 defeat against Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Saturday, through goals by Aubrey Ngoma and an own goal by Erwin Isaacs.

Mzwakali says he is honoured to have reached a milestone of 100 appearances for the club and insists that he has been working hard to get more game-time under his belt, while also showing his eagerness to score more goals for the club.

‘Thank you very much, I am very proud of myself and thank you to Ajax Cape Town,’ Mzwakali told the Ajax Cape Town website.

‘I think that as a 23-year-old, time has gone so quickly…I started playing for the first team at the age of 19. I still remember making my debut against Mamelodi Sundowns four years ago.

‘It is a huge honour for me to have reached 100 caps for Ajax, I think I have been pushing really hard throughout the past few seasons and I am eager to build on that. I just hope to score more goals.’

The former Ajax youth product says his side were expected to win the Cape Town derby but Eric Tinkler’s proved too strong for the Urban Warriors on the day.

‘We lost the game against Cape Town City, it wasn’t a good game for the team – especially everyone at Ajax – but we tried our best,’ He added.

‘As players, we worked very hard, we tried everything. It was a Derby match and we expected to win, we wanted to win.’

Ajax Cape Town will be hoping to bounce back in the Absa Premiership when they take on Polokwane City on Saturday.

The match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium kicks off at 15:30.
