Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his side shouldn’t be careless, after playing out to a 1-1 draw against Chippa United in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday.

The Brazilians opened the score with an 18th-minute goal by defender Wayne Arendse, but conceded a penalty which Chippa striker Rhulani Manzini converted as both sides shared the spoils and walked away with a point each at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

Sundowns are currently placed fifth in the Absa Premiership standings with 26 points and have won eight out of 12 matches played so far this season, with four games in hand.

The 52-year-old coach says he was disappointed with his side’s failure to convert their chances in the final third, but he admits that the Chilli Boys put up a good fight to earn a point against the defending champions.

‘Both teams had chances, they had chances, but under the circumstances we will take a point because we [struggled] to play football,’ Mosimane said after the match.

‘We played ”that” type of football, [with the ball] up in the air. That’s not football. That’s not good for Chippa, it’s not good for Sundowns; we don’t play percentage football.

‘The rest … there’s no football, it’s a fight. That’s not football.’

Mosimane went on to praise the quality of football both sides produced as the match ended in a stalemate at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

‘I said before it’s going to be a very tight game. We shouldn’t be careless because the two sides were playing high-quality football, so if [Chippa] score we might lose the game,’ he added.

Mamelodi Sundowns will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on Platinum Stars in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

The match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium kicks off at 20:15.
