Mamelodi Sundowns Pitso Mosimane wants to learn from former Barcelona man Jose Ramon Alexanko, who was appointed head of the club’s academy and scouting division.

Masadawana announced last week that Alexanko was joining the club to take up responsibilities in the academy set-up while he will also help identify the right players to bring in.

Alexanko arrived in South Africa with an impressive CV both as coach and player after spending his career at the likes of Barcelona, Valencia and the Spain national teams.

Mosimane was asked about the Spaniard’s arrival at a media conference on Monday. While he was quick to say he had nothing to do with the decision, he insisted he is open to learn from a man who rubbed shoulders with Johan Cruyff and Pep Guardiola.

‘Sundowns issued a statement on the role of Jose. It has nothing to do with me, it is a decision taken by the club and I am a small part of the club. I get a salary from the club – I must abide, otherwise if I don’t like it then why am I there? The bigger part of the vision of the club is not made by me,’ Mosimane said.

‘It’s made by the board and the president of the club and we need to respect that. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with me learning from him.

‘This is a guy who played for Barcelona and he was the captain during his time. He was heading the programme when Pep [Guardiola] was the coach of the youth team. He was working with Johan Cruyff and those are the guys who can talk about the Le Masia programme,’ Mosimane added.

‘You can’t be from Barcelona and know nothing. He is an import; he must make a difference. He is under pressure to show us, and why can’t I learn from him? It’s good to have that experience,’ the former Bafana Bafana coach concluded.
