Mamelodi Sundowns continue to wait to see new signing Mauricio Affonso in action, after coach Pitso Mosimane confirmed another injury setback for the big striker.

The Uruguyan picked up an ankle injury during pre-season training in Mbombela in July just after signing for the club, and has subsequently missed the start of the season.

However, he looked to be nearing a debut when Mosimane disclosed that he was no longer in pain from his injury and was just working on his match fitness. The player even travelled with Sundowns to Free State for the Absa Premiership match against Bloemfontein Celtic last week, although he was not included in the 18-man team.

Despite making that squad, Affonso will now have to patiently wait for his debut due to a new injury.

‘He got injured again at training. It’s the same injury again, it’s unbelievable,’ said Mosimane.

‘It’s a setback again with him,’ he added.

Affonso headlines a list of players currently out for the Brazilians, including Thapelo Morena, Phakamani Mahlambi, Rivaldo Coetzee, Anthony Laffor and Ricardo Nascimento.
