Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he was impressed with Kennedy Mweene and debutant Lyle Lakay following their performance against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Goals from Themba Zwane and Jeremy Brockie helped the Brazilians secure the first-ever Shell Helix Cup after their 2-1 victory over Amakhosi at the FNB Stadium.

Mosimane says he is disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet against Chiefs after conceding a late goal, but was happy to give certain players a chance after making nine changes to his squad following their defeat against AS Togo-Port in the Caf Champions League on Tuesday.

‘But all in all you cannot be too boastful this is a pre-season cup it doesn’t mean anything. We need to get back to catch our rhythm. I’m very happy to give other guys a chance to play. We dropped nine players from the team that played in Togo,’ Mosimane told SABC TV after the game.

‘I’m also happy for Lyle Lakay coming in at left-back. He showed good signs, Kennedy Mweene was brilliant. I’m disappointed with the goal, it should have been 2-0 to be honest.’
