Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane lamented the manner in which his team conceded goals in the 2-2 draw against Platinum Stars on Thursday night, which dented their chances of retaining the title.

A Ndumiso Mabena-inspired brace ensured Dikwena shared the spoils with Masandawana at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium. Mosimane cut a frustrated figure after the game, saying that his side did everything in their power to achieve victory.

‘Of course it was a disappointing result. We gave it our best shot,’ he said in post-match comments.

‘We spent the whole morning talking about the throw-ins and set-pieces because against Wits we conceded on a throw-in, and again tonight we concede from a throw-in.

‘Even the second goal was a set-piece, quickly taken. Against Golden Arrows it was the same thing in the Nedbank Cup. But it’s lessons in football, you never know, maybe we need the point, but to be honest we should have won,’ he added.

The former Bafana Bafana mentor also said that he predicted the threat of former Orlando Pirates forward Mabena, despite the 29-year-old having not featured in his side’s previous two league encounters.

‘I called it. He’s [Mabena] not been playing all the time and then suddenly Cavin Johnson puts him there, and he’s experienced and he knows how to play.

‘He [Johnson] put in his best line-up, that’s the one to win. I don’t know why he didn’t put them in for the last three games. Maybe they waited for Sundowns?’ he concluded.
