Mamelodi Sundowns right back Thapelo Morena wants to see Video Assistant Technology (VAR) introduced into South African football after the late controversy in the Telkom Knockout Cup final.

There was a controversial moment in the TKO final when Maritzburg United striker Judas Moseamedi thought he had equalised in the stoppage time against Sundowns only for the linesman to flag him for offside.

Sundowns went on to win the game 2-1 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium to clinch their first TKO title since 2015 after Moseamedi’s goal was disallowed.

Speaking to the media, Morena was asked whether or not he feels that VAR should be introduced to avoid such decisions, he said: ‘If it possible. It can be introduced and it is the most important thing but for us everyone makes mistakes and we can learn from those mistakes,’ Morena told the media after the game.

Despite their triumph in the knockout competition, Morena has urged his side to stay focused and continue to improve their game ahead of their congested fixture schedule.

‘I think for us we just have to look at our own side, everybody has to learn and look at where they can improve.’
