Cape Town City captain Thamsanqa Mkhize has sent a message of support following the outbreak of the coronavirus that is plaguing South Africa.

Premier Soccer League chairman Dr Irvin Khoza recently called for all football matches and football events in the country to be suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, Khoza also confirmed that the board of governors agreed that the 2019-20 season has to finish by no later than 30 June 2020.

The City captain has since opined on the standstill in football:

‘Hi this is Thami Mkhize from Cape Town City football club.

‘I would like to pass my words of comfort and encouragement to those who have been infected by this virus that has disturbed the whole world. Wishing them a speedy recovery.

‘I would like to encourage all of us to follow all the safety measures that we are being told in order to keep us safe and protected from the virus.

‘This virus has even affected the game we love football. We miss our supporters dearly and we look forward to reuniting with you after the dust has settled and the virus has been stopped.

‘I am City. Thank you.’
