Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says being patient was key to defeating Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium over the weekend.

The Glamour Boys extended their unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership to four games after Lebogang Manyama scored a late winner to hand Amakhosi a narrow 1-0 victory over Arrows.

With the victory Amakhosi stretch their lead at the top of the league standings to 10 points over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who were involved in Caf Champions League action over the weekend.

However, Middendorp was happy to see his side grind out a positive result and collect all three points against an unpredictable Arrows side.

‘We spoke about patience at half time,’ Middendorp told his club’s official website.

‘We have seen with the other teams as well – you cannot predict how they’ll approach us. The other day we played Cape Town City and noticed their change of formation compared to when they play other teams. We are well aware of these situations.

‘We knew we had to manage the game until the end,’ he added. ‘I am happy we were patient. The match was not eye-catching, but the result is what we wanted.

‘Kgotso Moleko was put under pressure and he worked his socks off. We pulled him out and brought in Reeve Frosler to stabilise the right-back area. It was good to see Frosler returning and giving us the option of attacking from the flanks.

‘Credit to Arrows – they are an organised side. They are a structured side, hence we had to be patient in our approach. The goal is a result of patience. These are aspects that will come in handy at this stage of the league.’
