Ernst Middendorp and the Kaizer Chiefs players have reportedly been summoned to Naturena for a post-season meeting on Tuesday, following their heartbreak on the final day of the season watching the league slip away.

SoccerLaduma reports the entire Chiefs playing and backroom staff have been asked to come to Naturena for a meeting at 1pm on Tuesday.

The meeting comes as the club come to terms with the extension of their trophy drought to five years after a final-day draw with Baroka handed Mamelodi Sundowns a record 10th league title.

Amakhosi led the title race for the majority of the campaign – even by 13 points at one stage – but in the end they finished two points behind the Brazilians.

The German coach still has a year left on his contract but after the devastation against TS Galaxy in the 2018-19 Nedbank Cup final, followed by the botched job in the league this season, many are beginning to question whether Middendorp will stay at the club, especially with Gavin Hunt available as supposed favourite to take over.

Although Middendorp has a year remaining on his contract at Naturena, he has come under immense pressure and it’s not expected he will stay in the Chiefs hotseat, with Gavin Hunt the front-runner to take over.

The meeting will reportedly address several issues as the club looks to plot a way forward and come up with a strategy to bring silverware back to Naturena.
