Kaizer Chiefs take on SuperSport United on Wednesday evening in Ernst Middendorp’s first game back at the Soweto giants, and the German coach has called on his players to put in a big performance.

Middendorp was named as Giovanni Solinas’ replacement just hours after it was announced that the Italian coach and assistant Patrick Mabedi were leaving the club.

The former Maritzburg United coach will now be tasked to turn results around at Chiefs, starting with Wednesday’s clash against Matsatsantsa.

Heading into the clash, the Amakhosi sit 7th on the log with 18 points from 14 games, while their opponents are one spot ahead of them in 6th with 19 points, but have only played 12 games, and three points for either side could see them climb the table.

SuperSport, who have performed well under Kaitano Tembo this season, will offer Chiefs a stern test, according to Middendorp, who has called on his players to produce a big performance.

‘We are focused, we need to show our abilities together in a proper way,’ the new coach told the media at the Village on Monday.

‘Then of course we must respect a SuperSport team with good results and good positioning [on the log] at the moment.

‘I think we have to perform at a very high level [against SuperSport] in order to be successful,’ concluded Middendorp.
