Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere says he was pleased with the performance of the club’s new signings on their debuts against Orlando Pirates on Wednesday.

The Dikwena skipper walked away with the Man of the Match award following their goalless draw against the Buccaneers in the Absa Premiership.

The 32-year-old says he always anticipated a tough encounter against the Buccaneers, but he feels his side should’ve walked away with all three points on the day.

‘It was a tough game. We always expected a tough game from a tough team. We had better chances and we should have buried them. We are just happy with a point. We didn’t concede so that’s a positive that we can take,’ Mere told the Platinum Stars website.

Mere says he was impressed by the performances of Sphamandla Mlilo and debutant Willem Mwedihanga in defence for Dikwena.

‘In the first leg of the league, we conceded silly goals, school boy errors. Now we have fixed things. As long as we are tight at the back, I don’t see us losing any more games,’ he added.

Mere was pleased with the performance of their new signings and he believes they will be a real asset to the club this season.

‘I would like to congratulate Phiri and Willem. They fitted well in the team. Nale also did well. I think they are going to help us. I think now we know what to do,’ Mere said.

Platinum Stars will next take on Mozambican side Uniao Do Songo in the CAF Confederation Cup at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Saturday.
