Ajax Cape Town coach Stanly Menzo admits that he is satisfied with a point following their 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.

Nathan Paulse opened the scoring for the home side after latching on to a Thabo Mosadi cross before Amakhosi leveled matters in the closing stages of the match through Daniel Cardoso.

The 53-year-old says he was delighted to have walked away with a point against an Amakhosi side that were at the top of the Absa Premiership standings heading into the match.

‘When you play away from home it is always good to get a point because that is the experience that I had today – that we played away from home and not at home,’ Menzo told the Ajax Cape Town website.

‘I think if you play Kaizer Chiefs, who are top of the log if you say before the game that you can have a draw, you will sign of it. Watching the game, the first chance was ours, but then they hit the post through [Siphiwe] Tshabalala.’

Menzo admits that the Glamour Boys dominated proceedings in the first half but he believes his side came out with more intent in the second half of the match, creating more opportunities in the final third resulting in them breaking the deadlock.

‘The first-half we played the way we wanted to play, maybe it was the wind, we couldn’t press high because they play very well between the lines – we changed that a bit in the second half. Maybe because of that they started to play better,’ He added.

‘In the first-half, I think we did well, created two chances – an opportunity. Second-half they started to really play, they have a great team, but out of that, we created chances by playing on the counter or on transition. We got some good chances, opportunities.’

Ajax Cape Town will next take on SuperSport United in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

The match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium kicks off at 20:15.
