Maritzburg United became the first PSL team to win all four of their promotion play-off matches since the new rules were introduced in 2012 after a 2-1 win over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on Saturday afternoon at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Eric Tinkler’s chargers had already secured their place in the Absa Premiership for the 2019/20 campaign with their 2-0 win over Royal Eagles on Wednesday afternoon, which took them to an unassailable nine points on the playoff log.

TTM were looking to finish off their campaign with a result which would see them finish second on the log ahead of Royal Eagles.

The home side started on the front foot with their capacity crowd offering some fantastic support.

It took The Team of Choice just 16 minutes to open the scoring as Mokate got on the end of a quality cross by Fortune Makaringe’s before guiding his shot past TTM keeper Tshepo Ramaele.

The away side then looked to fight back and they almost hit back instantly when Onyedikachi Ononogbu’s shot was well saved by Mpandle just 4 minutes after going behind.

The game then stagnated from that point as both sides struggling to create any openings with Mboniseni Mbandlwa curling effort on the 30-minute mark, which sailed just wide of the upright, the only chance of note in the remainder of the first stanza.

1-0 to Tinkler’s men at the break as they looked to cap off the playoffs with another win.

TTM came out with intent in the second stanza and had a great chance to equalise when Wonderboy Makhubu was played in, down the left flank but instead of squaring the ball to his teammate, he went for glory and blazed over.

Maritzburg were looking to control possession and the pace of the game as the half began to ware on.

They then managed to wrap up the game with 12 minutes to play when Mokate pounced on a mistake by Carlington Nyadombo to bag his brace with a cool finish

There was a late consolation for the away side as Thembisani Nevhulamba driven shot hit the back of the net with two minutes to play.

2-1 the final score as the Team of Choice bounce back to the Absa Premiership in style.
