Maritzburg United have confirmed the appointment of Mabhuti Khenyeza as the club’s new assistant coach to Muhsin Ertugral.

The former AmaZulu striker called time on his playing career to pave way for his move to the Team of Choice following the departure of Maahier Davids, who was assistant coach to his brother Fadlu Davids.

The 36-year-old, who cut his contract with AmaZulu short midway through the current campaign, will now be reunited with Ertugral at Maritzburg, having previously worked together at Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town.

The club confirmed Khenyeza’s arrival on their official Twitter account on Thursday morning with the following statement:

‘Maritzburg United are delighted to confirm the appointment of Mabhuti Khenyeza as an assistant coach to Muhsin Ertugral.’

Meanwhile, the veteran had this to say about his appointment: ‘Becoming a coach is something I always wanted to pursue after my playing career.

‘I have kept an eye on the club over the years, and I am really happy to start my journey here.’

The Team of Choice currently occupy 16th place on the league standings with 11 points from 14 matches played so far this season.

Maritzburg United are set to face KZN rivals Golden Arrows in their first Absa Premiership game of the year on Sunday.
