Ajax Cape Town young prospect Grant Margeman says his game has improved under the guidance of head coach Stanley Menzo.

The Urban Warriors are currently placed 11th in the Absa Premiership standing with 19 points and have won five out of 18 matches played so far this season.

The 18-year-old midfielder scored the opening goals during the Urban Warriors 1-1 draw against Polokwane City in their Absa Premiership match last Saturday.

Margeman also found the back of the net against Highlands Park, following their 2-1 defeat in the Absa Premiership two months ago.

The former Ajax youth product says he is over the moon after scoring two goals in nine appearances this season, having made his debut against Maritzburg United in November 2016.

‘It felt amazing scoring my second goal of the season,’ Margeman told the Ajax Cape Town website.

Margeman believes he is improving in his development as a player, while also maturing on and off the field  under the guidance of coach Menzo. He also says he will continue to advance if he is handed more game-time.

‘The more games I’m playing I’m getting stronger, both physically and mentally. I’m starting to read the game better, and understanding what the coach wants from me.’

The defensive midfielder’s performances this season has not gone unnoticed after he was included in the South Africa U20 national team squad for the 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals.

The U20 continental tournament will be hosted by Zambia, which begins from February 26 to March 12, with Amajita placed in Group B alongside the likes of Cameroon, Senegal and Sudan.

Ajax Cape Town will next welcome Kaizer Chiefs to Athlone Stadium when the two sides lock horns in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

Kick-off has been set for 20:15.
