SuperSport United midfielder Kudakwashe Mahachi has opened up on his departure from Orlando Pirates ahead of their Absa Premiership clash with his former club.

The Zimbabwe international parted ways with the Buccaneers at the start of pre-season and moved to Matsatsantsa along with striker Thamsanqa Gabuza.

The 25-year-old failed to make an impact during his one season at Pirates, only managing to score three goals from 19 appearances in all competitions.

However, Mahachi insists that he has put his experience at the Sea Robbers behind him after finding a new home with Matsatsantsa, where he is relishing the chance to win silverware.

‘Firstly, I want to thank Orlando Pirates and the chairman [Irvin Khoza] for giving me the opportunity to play for a big club like Pirates,’ said Mahachi.

‘But I don’t want to look back. I’m happy that I’ve found my home at SuperSport United, so I’ve started working hard to win something with the team.

‘I’m new, so I’m still trying to see the structures, like the game model of the team, and I’m pushing myself extra hard so that I can be there [on the pitch].’

Mahachi insists that he has nothing to prove against his former club when the two sides meet at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday evening.

‘No, I don’t have anything to worry about. Pirates are a good team; they are a big team in South Africa, and they play good football,’ he added.

‘For us as a team, we need to be prepared. Our coach knows that when you play against Pirates, they are a good playing team and he knows everything about them.

‘We just need to focus on his game plan as players, so that we can try to win the game. I haven’t been asked [about their tactical set-up or anything].’

SuperSport United against Orlando Pirates kicks off at 7:30pm.
