Mamelodi Sundowns defender Motjeka Madisha believes his side fought hard to clinch a narrow 1-0 victory over SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.

Madisha, who picked up his second man of the match award, made his third consecutive start for Sundowns, playing the full 90 minutes against SuperSport and Free State Stars.

The Brazilians have now done the double over cross-town rivals Stuart Baxter’s side, following that 5-0 thumping in their first encounter in the PSL seven days ago.

The former MultiChoice Diski Challenge product has scored once and made six appearances in all competitions so far this season, after spending half of last season on loan to Highlands Park.

The 22-year-old says he expected a bigger fight from Matsatsantsa, but he believes Pitso Mosimane’s tactics worked against a well-organised SuperSport side.

‘We knew it was not gonna be easy, we had to fight and fortunately, we managed to score,’ Madisha told SuperSportTV.

‘As a team, we had to fight, we had to come to the party and play our role, and you can see we managed to win.

‘I would also like to dedicate [the MOM award] to my mother and father for being there for me. I would also like to thank the coaches for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to play.

‘So we take it one day at a time and we will focus.’

The win means Mosimane’s side sits fourth in the Absa Premiership standings with 44 points and they are now two points short of league leaders Cape Town City, and one point behind Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits in second and third place respectively.

Mamelodi Sundowns will be hoping to continue their winning ways when they take on Ajax Cape Town in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday, 24 April.

The match at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
