Cape Town City have been dealt a major blow after confirming that goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh is expected to be out of action for four weeks.

The 25-year-old sustained an injury during their narrow 1-0 defeat by Maritzburg United at Cape Town Stadium last Friday.

The Dutch shotstopper will now miss both of City’s Absa Premiership encounters with Polokwane City and Black Leopards before the Fifa international break.

However, Sage Stephens, who played second fiddle to Leewenburgh, looks set to make his first appearance for the Citizens this season.

The Mother City outfit confirmed the injury news on their official Twitter account:

‘Peter Leeuwenburgh is out for 4 weeks after suffering an injury in our previous match vs Maritzburg United.

‘We are relieved to hear that the injury is not as serious as we thought, after initial fears.

‘We wish you a Speedy Recovery.’
