Kaizer Chiefs great Vusi ‘Computer’ Lamola is relishing the chance to see Amakhosi playing their remaining Absa Premiership fixtures at their former home ground, the Orlando Stadium.

The Glamour Boys will resume their hunt for the Absa Premiership title when they face Bidvest Wits on 12 August 2020, with kick-off set for 6pm.

Amakhosi currently sit at the summit of the league table with 48 points from 22 matches, with eight games remaining in the season.

However, Chiefs will call Orlando Stadium their home for the remaining games. Here they won their first-ever league title back in 1974 and went on to win the league titles in 1977, 1979 and 1981 at the same venue.

On Amakhosi playing their remaining games at the Orlando Stadium, ‘Computer’ said: ‘Orlando Stadium is our home, it’s part of Kaizer Chiefs’ rich history and it holds so many great memories.

‘Orlando Stadium is like Wimbledon in England,’ he continued, ‘every tennis player wants to play at Wimbledon, because of its fabulous history. The same is true for Orlando Stadium when it comes to football. Let’s not forget that we, as Kaizer Chiefs, gained our enormous popularity during the time that this stadium was our home.’

Lamola added that his best memory was playing at Orlando Stadium when they beat Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates 7-3 in a cup game on 12 February 1972.

‘That game changed my life as a player,’ recalls Lamola.

‘To revisit Orlando Stadium now in our 50th anniversary year, is special for a club like Chiefs with such a very rich history.’
