Mamelodi Sundowns fullback Lyle Lakay is relishing the possibility of facing Kaizer Chiefs in the final of the Telkom Knockout Cup.

The Brazilians are set to face Golden Arrows in the semi-finals of the competition at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday, while Amakhosi take on Maritzburg United at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

Lakay insists that his side are not out for revenge but want to redeem themselves against Amakhosi after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Soweto giants on 27 October.

‘I won’t say we want revenge but we would want to win it and get Chiefs in the final. But it doesn’t really matter who we get … if we do get there,’ Lakay told the media.

‘Of course we would want Chiefs because of what happened in the previous games. If we do get Chiefs then it will be more exciting because we know the rivalry between the two teams.’

Masadawana are winless in their last two games, having played to a draw with Baroka before losing to Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership, but Lakay is not concerned by their current form.

‘Lots of teams go through it during the season. For us it’s good that we experience it early and can turn it around close to December,’ he added.

‘It’s nothing new and we just have to get over it.’

Mamelodi Sundowns against Golden Arrows kicks off at 3pm.
