The Cape Town-born attacker has enjoyed a great start to life at Sundowns since joining the club from the Citizens last month, having started in all three of their league games so far this campaign while also making the squad for their MTN8 quarter-final opener against Golden Arrows last week.

Lakay says he will treat the upcoming match as he would any other, despite coming up against the side he played for just over a month ago.

‘I’m excited not only to be playing against Cape Town City but also it’s a semi-final of the [MTN8] Cup. I don’t think I’ll treat it any different had we played another team because at the end of the day, it’s not about me and City, it’s about Sundowns against City,’ Lakay told TFGSoccerClub.

‘Yes, I’m coming up against my former team and I’m grateful for the opportunity they gave me but I will do my best like I always do to help the team win.’

The 27-year-old admits that he would like to lift the top eight trophy this season with Sundowns after losing to SuperSport United in the final last season.

In which Bradley Grobler, Dean Furman, Teboho Mokoena and Dove Wome all netted in the shootout, with Ronwen Williams crucially saving the first kick from Lakay and another from Judas Moseamedi as Matsatsantsa celebrated.

‘We stand a very good chance, we have a good team and lots of depth in the squad. It’s a trophy that I also want just as much considering what happened last season when I lost in the final with City,’ he added.
