Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says it is important for his players to recover in time for their next Absa Premiership clash against Chippa United on Saturday.

The Glamour Boys extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 13 games when they beat Celtic through goals in either half by George Maluleka and Gustavo Paez.

The result sees Amakhosi move into second place in the Absa Premiership standings and go within touching distance of table-toppers, Bidvest Wits and Komphela revealed his delight at garnering the victory ,but stressed the importance of a solid recovery period for their clash against Chippa United on Saturday.

‘What is important is to take one match at a time, we are delighted we got the victory, it was not easy,’ Komphela told SuperSport TV.

‘The most important thing now is to go back to the hotel … it is all about hydration, nutrition and recovery. Tomorrow we will go back to Johannesburg and do some regeneration and some maintenance for those that stayed at home.

‘We then look forward again to match on Saturday, they are coming thick and fast and the most important thing is to stay fresh.’

The 49-year-old coach admits that he has a selection headache with the quality players Amakhosi has at their disposal ,but the former Maritzburg United mentor was full of praise for substitute Paez.

‘It’s good, it gives lots of confidence again. But the headache now is what do you do with [Bernard] Parker, who is also helping you? What do you do with Shabba [Siphiwe Tshabalala], you still have [Hendrik] Ekstein and [William] Twala. There are a lot of them,’ he added.

‘That is the beauty of football and our supporters love all of them, they wish they could have all 30 players on the field, but you can only play 11.

‘I am happy for Paez, another goal again and one that was highly opportunistic.’

Komphela has revealed that Bernard Parker will miss the next league game through suspension ,but he insists it will give the striker time to recover and return for their match against Cape Town City on April, 25th.

‘Sometimes these things happen, one meat’s meat is another man’s poison. Berney comes out and we will miss him, but in between give him the opportunity to recover,’ Komphela concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run when they take on Chippa United in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

The match at the Mbombela Stadium kicks off at 18:00.
