Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela wants to claim maximum points against AmaZulu in order to stay in contention for the Absa Premiership title this season.

The Glamour Boys currently occupy fifth place in the league standings with 35 points after 23 games, trailing log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by eight points with eight games remaining in the season.

Komphela says the mood in the Chiefs camp is on a high as they look to walk away with all three points at the FNB Stadium against AmaZulu on Saturday.

‘The atmosphere in the team is great, as you can see,’ Komphela told his club’s official website. ‘It’s always good to have such a vibrant atmosphere ahead of a match.

‘We are slowly nearing the end of the football season.

‘It means that the fight is on, as we need the three points to keep our title hopes alive. We have to collect the maximum points to stay in contention for the league title.’

The Amakhosi mentor has warned his side of the threat AmaZulu possesses as Usuthu battles to stay clear of the relegation zone, while Amakhosi continue their fight for silverware this campaign.

‘AmaZulu are no pushovers,’ he added.

‘And they will come to the FNB Stadium knowing that a loss will draw them into a relegation battle. The game will, therefore, be a big occasion, as we both need the three points. But we do have a home ground advantage on our side plus the backing of our ever vocal and expectant supporters.’

The match at the FNB Stadium kicks off at 18:00.
