Kaizer Chiefs have been boosted by the return of Bernard Parker while new signing Kabelo Mahlasela is expected to be sidelined for eight weeks.

The Soweto giants strengthened their squad during the January transfer window by recruiting the likes of Leonardo Castro, Siphelele Ntshangase and Mahlasela; however, the latter is expected to resume full training with his new team in eight weeks’ time after sustaining an injury in his first training session with Chiefs.

Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner confirmed though that Parker resumed training with the first team after he was sidelined with an ankle injury.

‘Parker has recovered from an ankle injury. He is back in training with the rest of the squad,’ Milner told the club’s official website.

Milner also revealed that Mahlasela has a long way to go before making his debut for the Glamour Boys as he continues to nurse his injury.

‘Mahlasela has started with rehab in the gym,’ he added.

‘He is doing cardio and leg strengthening. He is still using crutches and a brace. We are looking at eight weeks to go before he resumes training on the pitch.’

Meanwhile, defender Tsepo Masilela is yet to resume training with the squad as he is still undergoing rehabilitation, while recovering from an ankle injury.

Philani Zulu and George Maluleka are also undergoing treatment and will be under assessment throughout the week.

However coach Steve Komphela can chose Joseph Molangoane and Teenage Hadebe, who are eligible for the next match after serving their respective suspensions.

Kaizer Chiefs will next play hosts to Golden Arrows when the two sides meet in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup at FNB Stadium on Sunday, with kickoff set for 15:30.
